Buying a Used Jupiter in Alabama
By TMD Marine Brokerage · Gulf Shores, AL
Jupiter Marine has built hand-laid, tournament-grade center consoles out of Palmetto, FL since 1998. The 29, 31, 34, and 38 hold value like almost nothing else in the offshore class. Here's what we check on every used Jupiter that comes through TMD Marine.
Hand-laid hull and coring
Jupiters are hand-laid with vinylester skin coats over Divinycell coring. Sound out the hull sides, deck, and transom — the whole boat should ring solid. Look at gelcoat transitions at the chines and bow flare for stress cracks. A clean Jupiter 29 or 31 will still look factory below the waterline a decade in.
Yamaha four-stroke packages
Most Jupiter 29s and 31s came with twin Yamaha F250 or F300 four-strokes. Verify service history, look for clean lower units, and pull a compression check on anything over 500 hours. Ask for fuel-filter change intervals — Jupiter owners tend to be meticulous, and the records tell the story.
Upper stations, electronics, and rigging
Many Jupiters carry a folding upper station with a full second helm. Confirm the fold mechanism, check upper-helm electronics and controls, and make sure Garmin/Simrad displays, radar, and autopilot fire cleanly. Livewells, macerated fish boxes, and raw- water washdowns should all hold prime.
Pricing and what to expect
Clean 2010-era Jupiter 29s with fresh four-strokes trade in the $110K-$140K range depending on hours, electronics, upper station, and trailer. We're currently marketing a 2011 Jupiter 29 Center Console with twin Yamaha 250s (under 700 hours), folding upper station, and matching triple-axle Sport Trail trailer at $122,500.
