Buying a Used Yellowfin in Alabama

By TMD Marine Brokerage · Orange Beach, AL

Yellowfin has been the benchmark for stepped-hull offshore center consoles for over twenty years. They run efficient, ride dry in a Gulf chop, and hold value better than almost anything else at the dock. Here's what we check on every used Yellowfin that comes through TMD Marine.

Stepped hull and running surface

The stepped hull is what makes a Yellowfin a Yellowfin — but it's also the first thing to inspect. Look for chine damage, ventilation cracks around the steps, and any prior fiberglass work. A properly maintained 36, 39, or 42 Offshore will show clean gelcoat from the chine down.

Transom, motor mounts, and rigging

Quad-outboard Yellowfins put serious load on the transom. Tap for moisture, check the bolt pattern for hairline stress cracks, and pull the rigging tubes to inspect for chafe. Mercury Verado 350s and 400Rs are the common power plants — verify service history, compression, and any warranty transfer.

Electronics and layout

Most Yellowfins on the Gulf are rigged for tournament fishing — twin Garmin or Simrad displays, radar, autopilot, live-well plumbing, and dredge stations. A dated nav package is a common negotiating point.

Pricing and what to expect

Used Yellowfin 42s in clean condition with late-model quads typically trade in the mid-$300s to low-$400s depending on hours, electronics, and trailer. Motivated sellers and end-of-season boats can be had for less — we're currently marketing a 2017 Yellowfin 42 Offshore priced to move at $320,000.
