Buying a Used Regulator in Alabama
By TMD Marine Brokerage · Orange Beach, AL
Regulator Marine has spent four decades building one thing: hand-laid, deep-V offshore center consoles that ride dry, hold value, and outlast their owners. Here's what we check on every used Regulator that comes through TMD Marine.
Deep-V hull and stringers
Regulators are hand-laid over vinylester-skin composite stringers. Sound them out for voids, look for gelcoat stress cracks at chine and spray-rail transitions, and check the bilge for old repairs. A clean 28, 31, or 34 will look factory-fresh below the waterline.
Transom, motor mounts, and rigging
Twin Yamaha F300s, F350s, and F425 XTOs are the common packages on 31s and 34s. Tap the transom for moisture, inspect the bolt pattern for hairline cracks, and verify service history — Yamaha XTOs love clean fuel and regular filter changes. Ask for a compression check and any remaining Yamaha Extended Service Contract coverage.
Electronics, seakeeper, and layout
Newer Regulators run twin Garmin or Simrad displays, radar, autopilot, and often a Seakeeper 3. Confirm the electronics fire up, verify the Seakeeper spool time, and check the livewell plumbing and coffin box drainage.
Pricing and what to expect
Used Regulator 31s in clean condition with late-model twins typically trade in the mid $300s to high $400s depending on hours, electronics, trailer, and Seakeeper. We're currently marketing a 2021 Regulator 31 with twin Yamaha F425 XTOs and 300 hours at $375,000.
